Artist Spotlight: ASALT TE/GM/UK/ASK

 LOCAL LEGEND

Sketches from Prison...Crazy!

Howzit guys! Damn, this semester sure flew by pretty quick! Stoked to know that this should be my last semester in KCC as now I can focus on pursuing my career in what I love most which is art!
Anyways for this weeks blog, I am going to introduce you to a graffiti artist based out of this very island and state of Hawaii! This man has had a very huge and inspirational impact among most of the graffiti heads old and young, and is known as a "LEGEND" in Hawaii's graffiti history, this rad artist goes by the name "ASALT". From the mid 90's to mid 2000's, ASALT has been apart of the huge graffiti impact in Hawaii, from the streets, to the ditches, his name was seen all over the islands. But his style was what set him apart from all other graffiti artists in Hawaii. Many believed that his style of work was way ahead of its time which was amazingly incredible.

But his work and potential was cut short due to life outside of graffiti and with the law, which kept him in and out of prison. Its crazy how life can change so quick and turn the opposite way from the decisions you make. But even as his days in prison, ASALT continues to do what he loves, which is art, and sends out amazing works of his sketches to his close friends, who then post's them on the web for everyone else to see. And by the looks of it, he hasn't lost his touch! It is also great to see new  graffiti pieces of his name being done in keeping his name alive from another local legend and close pal of his who goes by OERA.

The skills and work of this man will always inspire graffheads like me and many others for years to come as we all anticipate the day he will be killing the streets again and getting back to do what he loves most, GRAFFITI!

Artist Spotlight: REVOK

L.A.'s Most Wanted

This weeks post will introduce you to an artist based out of Los Angeles and also known as one of the best graffiti artists in the world, that one person goes by the name REVOK. Twenty years in the game, Revok has helped changed the game of graffiti with his evolutionary style. He has also captured headlines around LA from his works around the city that eventually made him LA's most wanted vandal according to the feds which eventually landed him in jail with a bail set at a record high for vandalism at $320.000. His name was so big in the graffiti world that it created a movement called "Free Revok", where artist around the state would write and paint his name. Though he hasn't painted an illegal mural or created any art crimes in LA for years since, there is no telling how big of an inspiration this man is to many graffiti artists around the word as he is the king of style when it comes to graffiti, and his work shows it.

He was also a famed tattoo artist in North Hollywood to many celebrities. Artist Spotlight: Tristan Eaton

POW! WOW! Hawaii x Versace  By: Tristan Eaton

This first series of post of "Artist Spotlight" will feature different artist's and their works from around the world that have inspired me.

The first artist I will feature is an graffiti artist based out of California name Tristan Eaton. From the people who have transformed the walls of Kaka'ako into beautiful works of graffiti art and paintings, POW! WOW! Hawaii has teamed up with fashion house heavy weight Versace in creating a mural based on their iconic Medusa logo. Done by the skills of Tristan Eaton, it was all made possible as he did it justice with his own touch of flavor and with the support of Montana Cans spray paint. The process of this mural took five days to complete! If your a local in Honolulu, Hawaii and you haven't got the chance to peep this work of art yet, it is located at the old Comp USA building. To see more of Tristan Eaton's work, follow his instagram @tristaneaton

Enjoy!
